Audio Studio
Arrange audio clips on a multi-track timeline, mix them, and bounce the result to a file.
In the lab · Experimental, in the direct download only — switch on Show Experimental on the home screen to see it
What it does
- Lays audio out on a multi-track timeline: import files, place them as clips on the selected track, drag clips along a track, and zoom the time ruler in and out
- Plays back through a live audio graph where each track gets its own mixer node feeding a master, so moving a track's volume or pan fader changes what you hear straight away
- Bounces the whole project to a file you name, in WAV, AAC or AIFF, with a progress bar - a real offline render through AVAudioEngine's manual rendering mode, not a real-time recording of playback, and it honours each track's volume, pan and mute plus the master level
- Detects a track's tempo from the audio itself using onset detection and autocorrelation over the first 30 seconds, and shows the BPM on the DJ deck
- Draws waveforms from the audio's actual sample peaks, and lets you choose the Core Audio input and output device and the project's sample rate
- Keeps named projects, each with its own audio folder, listed in a left-hand browser alongside the files imported into them
How to try it
- Open Audio Studio - it creates a project for you on first appearance.
- Click "Import Audio" at the bottom of the left panel and choose a sound file; it lands as a clip on the selected track.
- Press the play button in the toolbar to hear it, and move that track's volume slider in the "Mixer" panel on the right.
- Click "Export" in the toolbar, pick WAV in the Format picker, and press "Export" to bounce a file.
Works with
- The automation pipeline engine - the AudioStudioMasteringService this applet defines is what the built-in Audio Mastering skill calls, so mastering is reachable from a pipeline
- Core Audio - input and output devices are enumerated from the system, so external interfaces appear in the settings
